Quote: “The poor thing must have been terrified! She screamed ‘I’ll kill you bastards!’ as she fell.”
Name: Ion
Alias: Fon Master Ion, but no one calls him this anymore since he’s no longer the Fon Master
Age: 14
Film/Show/Game: Tales of the Abyss
Species: Human
Height: 5’4”
Weight: 127 pounds
Basic Appearance: Ion is a somewhat short, pale boy with short green hair and piercing green eyes. Typically he wears a pale green robe with brighter green markings on it, making him appear a bit girlier than he ought to. Around his neck is a golden necklace with a gold tuning fork shaped charm attached to the end of it. Ion also wears white tights and gold colored sandals. There are also green bands around the two longer parts of his hair that hang down at the sides of his head.
Picture:
Personality: Ion is a calm, gentle boy and very soft spoken. He tends to not be taken very seriously as a leader because of his quiet nature, but isn’t afraid to let it be known when he’s mad. Ion is rather friendly, willing to make friends with pretty much anyone, and is considered a peacemaker of sorts. He tends to not get involved in physical fights, mostly because he is rather weak and tends to collapse should he ever actually use his magic abilities. Ion is also very optimistic and shows a great deal of maturity for one so relatively young.
Allies: Left for roleplay, but I can see him befriending Genis and Fluttershy.
Enemies: Left for roleplay
Family: None to speak of
Alliances: Amaterasu’s group
History: Ion was one of the seven replicas made to try and replace the original, dying Fon Master Ion. Unlike the other six, Ion showed the most potential in terms of the original’s powers and so he was chosen as the replacement Ion. The other six were doomed to die while Ion was taught the ways of the Fon Master. After the original died, Ion became the new Fon Master. Fortunately, no one was able to tell the difference. No one except the original Ion’s guardian, Arietta. Ion, however, didn’t remember Arietta being his guardian (mostly because, as a replica, he didn’t possess the memories of the original) and so had a girl named Anise take her place. Ion became good friends with Anise while she as his guardian, and she was none the wiser about him being a replica.
Eventually Ion came to an agreement with the Emperor of Malkuth, Peony IX, that he would be a messenger of peace along with Anise and Peony’s most trusted Colonel, Jade Curtiss. On their mission of peace to Kimlasca, Ion met up with Luke fon Fabre and Tear Grants and eventually decided to help them find out who the thieves of a village called Engeve were. It turned out that the thieves were the sacred beast of the Order of Lorelei, a little creature known as the Cheagle. It was then decided that they ought to help the Cheagles with their own problem, and after doing so Ion was able to convince Luke and Tear to join up with him, Anise, and Jade.
Once they returned to Baticul, Ion finally delivered Peony’s message to the King. Everything seemed to be okay after that, but it wasn’t long before he was kidnapped by the six God-Generals. He was eventually rescued by Luke and the others, and he decided to accompany them on their mission instead of going all the way back to the Order of Lorelei. Ion stuck with the group throughout their adventure, even trying to stand up for Luke when he destroyed Akzeriuth, and remained a loyal friend to the group. Ion helped them on several occasions, offering information on things when they needed it and even getting Asch, one of the six God-Generals who turned against Van, to assist them at times. At one point while helping them, though, it was revealed that he wasn’t the original Ion when the God-General Sync tried to kill Luke and the others. It was revealed that Sync himself was an Ion replica, and that Ion was also a replica. When Sync refused to come with the group and threw himself into the core of the earth, Ion realized that he didn’t just want to be someone’s replica. He wanted to do more with his life than that, but was bound to being the Fon Master. When Luke’s group went off to face Van at the Absorption Gate, Ion offered his support and encouraged them before being left behind in the safety of Keterburg. Once Van was defeated, Ion returned to Daath along with Anise, and life seemed to return to normal.
Nothing lasts forever, though. After Luke’s group seemed to have defeated Van, it became apparent that things weren’t entirely peaceful in Auldrant. The miasma, which everyone thought they had managed to get rid of for good, returned and started to effect Tear quite seriously. Ion knew there was something he could do to help, namely sacrificing himself to rid Tear’s body of the contaminated fonons, but before he could reveal what he intended on doing Anise came and took Ion away. She eventually led him to Mohs, the Grand Maestro of the Order of Lorelei, and he was taken to the Mt. Zaleho sephiroth to read the Score for Mohs. Ion knew he was dying as he read the Score. His body was too weak due to being a mere replica. As Luke and the others came to save him as he was reading the Score, Ion stopped reading what Mohs wanted him to and instead read to them the key to figuring out how to get rid of the miasma. After that, Ion collapsed in exhaustion. He lay dying in Luke’s arms, trying to apologize for not being helpful, but Luke didn’t want to hear any of that. At last, though, Ion convinced Tear to come closer to him. He grasped her hand in his, and with the last of his energy Ion removed the contaminated fonons from Tear’s body. With his last breath, he thanked Anise for being a good guardian despite betraying the group and told her that she no longer had to watch over him. Shortly after that, Ion succumbed to his death and his replica body vanished. He had fulfilled his duty as a friend and a Fon Master. It seemed, for him, everything had returned to peace.
That is, of course, until the day Ion discovered that he was no longer dead. He awoke in a strange world, quite unlike Auldrant, and much to his amazement and confusion discovered that he was indeed alive. Marveled by this fact and confused by what had caused it, Ion decided he might as well try to find some place to call home for the time being. So, Ion headed toward the nearest building, which happened to be a castle, and sought out a group to stay with until he could figure out just why he was alive again.
Sample Post: ”You don’t have to… watch over me… anymore, Anise.” Ion was becoming more conscious of the fact that his voice was growing softer. His eyes were growing heavier by the moment, and it was becoming harder to focus on what needed to be said. He needed to thank Anise before he died. The one person he could truly call a good friend. He wasn’t upset with her. Ion knew why she had to betray him. The fact that her parents had been imprisoned not far from where he lay dying was enough proof of the fact that she hadn’t done this of her own volition.
“I’m so sorry, Ion. I… I…” Anise’s words seemed choked by tears. Ion didn’t want her to be sad. He didn’t want her to cry before he left her. Weakly, Ion raised one hand slightly. It was as if he was trying to reach out to her. In a sense, the dying green-haired boy was. He had considered her a dear, dear friend. …No. She was more than that. He needed to let her know that.
“Thank you… for everything, my most… cherished…”
Ion couldn’t finish his thought. The last word died on his lips, and at last the young replica succumbed to the desire to let his eyes close. The last thing he heard was Anise’s choked sob of his name. After that, he embraced the darkness that had surrounded him. He was free.
Suddenly, Ion found himself forcing his eyes open as he let out a sharp gasp for breath. What… what had happened? The green-haired replica looked around quickly at the surrounding area, trying to figure out what had happened. He was no longer in the Mt. Zaleho sephiroth. Luke and the others were nowhere to be seen, and neither was Mohs. “A-Anise? Are you here?” Ion called. When he found he was met by silence, Ion frowned slightly. “Where am I?” he wondered. The boy slowly pushed himself off the ground, staggering slightly as he tried to get used to standing again. This wasn’t Daath. This wasn’t anywhere he knew. Ion realized the fact that he could feel his heart beating once more meant that he was alive, but he didn’t understand why that was. He had read the Score like Mohs had told him to. He had relayed information to Luke before dying. Why was he alive?
“I don’t think I’m going to reach any conclusive answers by just standing here. …I need to find someone who knows more about this place.” Ion decided. Though his steps were a bit shaky, Ion managed to start walking away from the area he had found himself in. He didn’t know where he was going. All Ion knew was that he needed to find somewhere safe to be.
